Francisco Balagtas

Who are you?
My name is Francisco. I’m a freelance Photographer/Videographer focused mainly in the golf industry. I’ve been playing golf for over 30 years now, with my only regret that some of those years I didn’t take golf seriously enough. Some of those down years in golf I balanced out with personal accomplishments in running in all distances from the mile to ultra marathons. I started blending my love of golf and photography together in April of 2024, which has been an upward trajectory shooting local groups, professional tournaments, working with brands, and specialty events.

Where are you based?
New York City, New York, USA. I’ve lived in a few different neighborhoods and boroughs in NYC in the last 12-13 years, but I now call Brooklyn home.

What’s golf to you?
Golf has always been and will always be my number one passion. It has created so many moments and memories for me that it’s almost an addiction to keep chasing and creating those moments. I will always enjoy the grind and emotional swings it brings to you when you are out on the course solo or with a group. Shooting golf is a way for me to show others how beautiful the game is. Whether it’s their own game or someone else’s, I want people to see it through my lens. Doesn’t matter if it’s a still photo or a series of videos, waiting and capturing those moments, then turning it into its final form is the most enjoyable part. The golf community is a great place and I want to keep contributing to help that continue to grow.

Target handicap?
I’m finishing this year at an 8.9 index. I started the year at 8.7, so I wouldn’t consider getting worse, but my goal every year in the last few years is to improve. I used to be in the low single digits, I’d like to keep out of the double digit range.

Favorite golf course?
If you aren’t a member at a private club and live in the NYC area, The Black Course at Bethpage is going to be your overwhelming answer. Championship quality golf, Top 100 Course, Top 10 Public Course, all for under $100 if you are a resident of New York State. Just be prepared to submit yourself to the tee time system, and yes it is worth it.

Favorite item in your bag?
My favorite non-club item in my bag is divot tool I’ve had since high school. No branding, just a simple silver tool thats passed from bag to bag over the last 25 years.

My favorite club in my bag is my putter, an Evnroll ERv2 Mid Slant. I was going to play a small, local muni tournament earlier this year and didn’t have my gamer bag. I pieced together my backup set and bought the putter off Facebook marketplace the day before. I ended up shooting my lowest round of the year and winning my flight because of my putting, unseating my Scotty Cameron that I had in the bag for almost 13 years.
